Trusted Computing Group Storage Work Group and NVMe Work Group Publish Joint Paper on Role of SEDs

Date Published: August, 11, 2015

Trusted Computing Group (TCG) has long worked with other industry groupsand the TCG Storage Work Group is no exception. Since it started developing the widely adopted specifications for self-encrypting drives (SEDs), TCG has been aligned with a number of storage interfaces and related organizations to ensure interoperability and support across storage types.

One such group is the Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe ™) Work Group, which is the optimized PCI Express ® SSD Interface. NVM Express is an optimized, high performance, scalable host controller interface with a streamlined register interface and command set designed for Enterprise, Datacenter, and Client systems that use Non-Volatile Memory storage. This recently published white paper illustrates the intersection of TCG’s SED specs and NVMe by stating that, “The scalability of the architecture and solutions embodied in the TCG Storage specifications provides an ideal match for the scalability provided by the NVMe specification and aligns with the Opal Family of specifications as the security management interface for both NVMe client and data center Storage Devices.”

The white paper offers additional insights and details and is available athttp://www.trustedcomputinggroup.org/resources/tcg_storage_opal_and_nvme.
