Micron, Samsung, Wave Systems and WinMagic to Demonstrate Self-encrypting Drive Solutions for Data Protection

Portland, Ore., Dec. 10, 2014 – Enterprises and consumers are creating more data than ever and storing it on their devices, in the cloud and in offsite data centers. But is this data secure? Experts from the industry, including members of the Trusted Computing Group, will address this topic Jan. 4-5, 2015 at the Storage Visions Conference.

Session B1 “Finding and Keeping It Safe: Protecting, Finding, Storing and Recovering Personal and Commercial Content” will cover the challenges facing security and protection of stored content, including content on mobile devices as well as at home and in the cloud.

Speakers and panelists include TCG members Michael Willett, Samsung and Robert Thibadeau, Wave Systems, along with Chris Bross, DriveSavers; Richard Fetik, Data Confidential; Sean Barry, Kroll-OnTrack; and Lance Dover, Micron.

In Booth 209, TCG members will demonstrate a number of enterprise applications for secure self-encrypting drives for data protection on clients, enterprise data centers and through the cloud.

Samsung will demonstrate secure solid state drives (SSDs) based on TCG’s standards for self-encrypting drives (SED). Self-encrypting SSDs provide users with fast performance and built-in, transparent encryption that does not impact drive performance or user productivity. Wave Cloud will also be demonstrated, providing centralized configuration and management of SEDs.

WinMagic will demonstrate a Micron M600 SED with SecureDoc to manage the security and integrate with pre-boot authentication and the TPM embedded on the device.

TCG’s standards for self-encrypting drives, or SEDs, are embedded into enterprise and client HDDs, hybrid and solid state drives and provide instant and continuous hardware-based encryption for data at rest.
