TCG Heads to SNIA’s Data Storage Security Summit Sept. 24 to Talk SEDs and Implementing Encryption of Stored Data

Date Published: September, 10, 2015

On Sept. 24, the Storage Networking Industry Association, or SNIA, will host the Data Storage Security Summit. This event includes a number of presentations and keynotes on the growing issue of data protection, the role of encryption, key management and evolving threats.

Of course, TCG will be there to talk about standards for self-encrypting drives. TCG has worked closely with the storage industry over the years to ensure support of various interfaces and to enable standards-based hardware encryption in client and enterprise drive products, from hard disk drives to solid state drives to various enterprise storage solutions.

Robert Thibadeau, BrightPlaza and original contributor to the TCG SED specs, will address information security. Michael Willett, also an original contributor to the first SED specs, will talk about how to implement stored data encryption and considerations for administrators.

Jason Cox, current TCG storage work group chairman, will update attendees on recent updates to TCG SED specification.

TCG recently published a number of new or updated specifications around self-encrypting drives. With NVMe, TCG recently published a white papernoting the role of TCG standards in NVMe security solutions.
