Trusted Computing Group Executive Director

OPPORTUNITY:

Trusted Computing Group (TCG) is looking for a leader capable of building and leading a membership based organization to drive awareness, education, growth, and adoption of trusted computing technologies.

THE ROLE:

The Board of Directors of Trusted Computing Group (TCG) is searching for a highly visible leader to provide senior level chief executive leadership, operational oversight, and management of strategic efforts according to the direction set by the Board of Directors. Working in collaboration with, and under the direction of, the President of the Board of Directors and Chairman, the Executive Director will assist with the development and execution of the organization’s strategic initiatives; outreach to and recruitment of potential partners and members across the private, public, and non- profit sectors, and serve as a public spokesperson for the organization in worldwide venues.

This role calls for an individual with knowledge of trusted computing technologies, familiarity with various privacy and security-related laws and regulations around the world, a technical background with business management history in a not for profit membership organization, public speaking/spokesperson experience including skills in working with international media, experience responding to public consultations on future trusted computing proposals, and experience in dealing with governmental and regulatory bodies.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Planning and Management

• Act as managing director, monitoring the day-to-day delivery of the programs and services of the organization, not including administrative functions
• Ensure that TCG meets the organization’s objectives and reflect the priorities of the Board
• Partner with TCG’s Marketing Work Group regarding their planning, implementation and evaluation of TCG’s communication programs and activities
• Monitor and guide work with TCG’s service providers
• Oversee the planning, implementation, execution and evaluation of special projects as needed

Leadership

• In cooperation with the Board, outline and implement TCG’s strategic initiatives and tactical efforts
• As appropriate, conduct official correspondence on behalf of the Board and jointly with the Board
• Foster effective teamwork and communication with the Board and TCG Chairpersons
• Act as an advisor to the Board on all aspects of TCG’s business and technical activities
• Build cross organizational consensus

Membership Recruitment & Participation

• Support recruitment efforts initiated by the organization, on an as-needed basis
• Communicate with the organization’s membership to keep them informed of the work of the organization and to identify changes in the industries served by the organization
• Ensure delivery of programs designed to retain existing members
• Recruit participation from member companies in various Work Groups of the organization
• Investigate and propose expansion as appropriate into emerging markets and technologies where TCG could be effective

Industry and Government Relations/Advocacy

• Serve as TCG’s “Evangelist” to the industry and marketplace
• Establish TCG as a technical resource for trusted computing and the root of trust with advocacy and policy groups to ensure TCG is the global leader in advocating the benefits of trusted computing technologies
• Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with regulatory bodies, policy makers, industry groups, media/analysts, worldwide governments, academic and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the organization
• Represent the organization at industry activities to enhance the organization’s industry profile
• Serve as a highly visible, and highly credible, spokesperson for TCG in order to meet the objectives agreed by the Board

REQUIREMENTS:

• A visionary personality with a high industry profile capable of driving engagement with the principles of TCG
• Significant background and experience in trusted computing technologies and policy
• Degree(s) in the technical, regulatory, and business domains
• Experience in technology based trade association leadership
• Ability to source, structure, and negotiate partnerships across multiple ecosystems, not for profits, and governmental entities
• Direct experience with managing communication strategies, public relations and/or public speaking

WORK EXPECTATIONS:

It is anticipated that this position may be a contractual relationship with the organization, and that this position would not constitute an employment relationship with TCG. Remuneration is commensurate with experience. Employment location is flexible.

This position is expected to be part-time (80-100 hours per month, excluding travel time). The Executive Director should expect to usually work in a self-provided professional environment, but the mission of the organization may sometimes take him/her to non-standard workplaces. The position will require work in early morning, late evening, and/or weekend hours to accommodate activities such as Board meetings and representing the organization at Industry events/conferences. Expected travel of approximately 1 week per month. Annual travel includes: 3 Members Meetings (Feb., Jun., Oct.), 2 Board face to face meetings (Apr., Sept.), and other industry events/speaking opportunities on an as-needed basis (dates TBD). The Executive Director shall provide periodic status updates on progress of work and activities.

The Executive Director shall be solely responsible for paying any and all taxes associated with receipt of all remuneration payments and expenses reimbursement and shall hold TCG harmless against any claims associated therewith. TCG will reimburse Executive Director for all reasonable travel expenses. Travel expenses will need to adhere to the TCG annual budget and expense policy and are subject to formal approval prior to incurring expenses. TCG will also reimburse for long distance and mobile phone expenses. All other operation expenses incurred will be paid by the Executive Director, unless previously agreed by TCG.

TRUSTED COMPUTING GROUP BACKGROUND

Trusted Computing Group (TCG) is a not-for-profit organization formed to develop, define and promote open, vendor-neutral, global industry standards, supportive of a hardware-based root of trust, for interoperable trusted computing platforms. Its membership spans multinationals, small- and medium-sized enterprises, and academic, research, and other organizations from around the world, all working to develop and promote the use of its specifications. TCG publicizes the specifications and uses membership implementations as examples of the use of TCG Technology. TCG is organized into a work group model whereby experts from each technology category can work together to develop the specifications. This fosters a neutral environment where competitors and collaborators can develop industry best capabilities that are vendor neutral and interoperable. There are currently 130+ companies and organizations that have joined as members or participants.

TCG incorporated in April 2003 as a 501 c(6) non-profit corporation and is governed by Oregon law.  The current Board of Directors is comprised of the following companies: Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Cisco Systems, Dell, Fujitsu Limited, Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, HP Inc., Huawei, IBM, Infineon Technologies, Intel Corporation, Juniper Networks, Lenovo, and Microsoft. There are five classes of membership: Promoter ($30,000 annually), Contributor ($15,000 annually), Associate ($10,000 annually) and Adopter ($7,500 or $2500, based on number of employees). In addition, TCG has a robust and very active Liaison and Invited Expert Participation Program. This participation is free for non-profit and public sector organizations. VTM Group of Beaverton, Oregon, serves as the administrative management firm for TCG.
